The Next Generation of American Tennis Players
At just 19 years old, Scoville is already the youngest American
in the ATP top 300 and is now considered by many industry experts
to be the stand-out of this next generation of American tennis
players. Whether it was his semifinal result at junior Wimbledon
last year, his historic win at the U.S. Junior Championships (1st
African-American to win the tournament in its 96 year history)
or his most recent 2nd round nationally televised match at the
US Open against the number two-ranked player in the world (Rafael
Nadal), people in (and out of) tennis are taking note.
For instance, Scoville was the subject of a half-page feature
in the sports section of USA Today, has had a full page story
in Sports Illustrated, a quarter page spread in the New York Daily
News, and most recently, a full-page photo shoot in the August
‘05 issue of Teen Vogue. As if that weren't enough, Ebony
Magazine named Scoville one of its "50 Most Intriguing Blacks
of 2004" (others named to this issue included Oprah Winfrey,
Sean Combs, etc).
